I stay out 10, then home 4.
It's like a mini vacation every other week TO ME.
My wife's schedule syncs up perfectly with it, and we have most all of that time off together.
I generally work all weekends, and my days off are weekdays.
That works out great, too.
Everything is much less crowded when you go do something.
It works for meTexas_hwy_287, Opus, D.Tibbitt and 3 others Thank this. -
They usually bring me home every weekend, for a reset. I stayed out once 12 days, it paid well, and I'd do it again.
Intothesunset and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
I like to stay out atleast 2 months... 3 to 4 weeks is not long enough to catch a good flow...for me atleast... It usually takes me and my dispatchers 2 weeks to get back in the groove... Once i get on some nice runs, ive been known to chase freight for 3 months or more..if freight is slow or my company is slacking u better belive im putting in for hometime... I dont have much to go home to so it works for me

I'm strictly home daily, unless a lucrative overnight opportunity appeared. Even then, one night max. My dogs need me. Lol
Intothesunset, D.Tibbitt and homeskillet Thank this. -
Ideally chain season to chain season prior to holidays at Halloween stay home the winter. The money should be made in a nice pile by then.
Either that or work a local job like blacktop in a similar part of the year, pile up the money and then unemployment until it gets warm enough early March to do more of the same the following year. That spoiled me, not having to deal with winter so much.
OR if you did not like winter, do what I did. Run I-10 if the freight on both ends support it either east coast texas or west coast texas. You wont see snow or ice mostly.Gambosa, Intothesunset and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
I usually stay out 4-5 weeks, then take 3 days at 'home'.
My home is actually the truck. Were I reside at is just a nice restful pit stop along the way.Intothesunset and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
When I was doing regular OTR I would go 2-3 months or more without time off, but I take a (minimum) three month vacation every year.
Now I do a.dedicated route that eats up my 70 in 6 days, so I have to do a 34 hour reset every week. If it wasn't legally mandated, I wouldn't do it...I have no use for it. It only screws up my schedule...my sleep pattern etc. I don't want a day or two or three off here and there. I make and save as much as I can and then get as far away from a truck as I can for as long as I can.dwells40, x1Heavy, Intothesunset and 1 other person Thank this.
