I just wanna start off by saying thanks to everyone on here for the priceless information. It has helped me a great deal from getting through school to just knowing what to expect in having a career as a professional truck driver. I wanted to go with TMC since day one and luckily they accepted me so I started school and now only have one week left before I'm done. I'm heading to Des Moines next weekend to start training on the 25th. Is anybody else on here starting on the same day and if so do you live near east TN? I was gonna take the greyhound at first but there's no way I'm riding that bus for 25 hours lol I don't have enough extra cash for a plane ticket so my plan is to rent a car and just drive the 13 hours up there. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Another reason not to take Greyhound

Yea I'm definitely not taking the greyhound now lol I guess I'm just gonna rent a car and drive up and try to be there around noon on Sunday. I was hoping to find somebody else to ride up there with so it would be cheaper to split everything in half and would be a whole lot less boring. 13 hours isn't gonna be fun either way but I'm just glad I'm getting the chance to be part of the TMC team!

Same thing happened in my class. Everyone who took the GreyHound from the east coast got in super late and were beat. I flew and was in the hotel at 11am Sunday. Plenty of time to relax and get settled.
TMC will reimburse you for the max price of what a bus ticket would cost but you have to pay it up front. But to me it was well worth it. -
TMC is a company I have been looking at for a little while and since I'm actively searching for a new company to work for TMC is in my top 5 or so. I have to do some more reading on them and probably get a few questions answered by a recruiter. Still have to research a few other companies and figure out what kind of trailer I want to pull. I'd like to try flatbed and see how I like it, if I don't i'll probably go back to tank or maybe van. -
Well I found out today that I have to use a credit card and it's gonna cost $434 to rent a car from down here and drop it off in Des Moines so that's outta the question now. Guess I'm just gonna drive my truck up and hope that I don't get a trainer till I come back. What do you guys think my chances are that I won't have to leave my truck up there after orientation??
-
I would be sure to let them know your plans ahead of time. That way they know not to assign a trainer right after orientation for you.
Good luck!jfreeman Thanks this. -
Thanks riverrat I'll be sure to do that. Are you gonna be at the terminal up there at any point during the next two weeks?
