Congratulations! You will enjoy the whole experience at Des Moines. Others have said it, so I'll just repeat it: Do not take the "Grey Dog" to orientation unless that is your only option. They run late and you will arrive at Des Moines at the worse time possible. We had a group of guys in my orientation class that rode the bus. They were supposed to arrive on Sunday around 4pm. Instead, they arrived on Monday at 2am with orientation bus leaving at 6:45am. Good Luck!

 

Another reason not to take Greyhound

Same thing happened in my class. Everyone who took the GreyHound from the east coast got in super late and were beat. I flew and was in the hotel at 11am Sunday. Plenty of time to relax and get settled.

TMC will reimburse you for the max price of what a bus ticket would cost but you have to pay it up front. But to me it was well worth it.

 

For me the airfare would be less than or pretty much equal to what a bus ticket would cost (as long as I get it 2-3 weeks in advance. Which would be how I'd schedule my orientation as I would prefer to leave my current company a two week notice.

TMC is a company I have been looking at for a little while and since I'm actively searching for a new company to work for TMC is in my top 5 or so. I have to do some more reading on them and probably get a few questions answered by a recruiter. Still have to research a few other companies and figure out what kind of trailer I want to pull. I'd like to try flatbed and see how I like it, if I don't i'll probably go back to tank or maybe van.

 

I would be sure to let them know your plans ahead of time. That way they know not to assign a trainer right after orientation for you.
