So wouldn't this be a part time job then? Whats the industry term for this because I actually think this is the way to go. I could live in a hotel for the month I'm off and then be on "vacation" until I have to go back to work. I want to live a nomadic lifestyle and give up home ownership.

Almost done with my CDL school and I am looking at going down south, maybe Myrtle Beach and working OTR 30 days on 30 days off. Instead of paying money for an apartment every month where I wouldn't even live half of the time, I am thinking about buying a fifth wheel RV and leaving it at the terminal with it hooked up to my pickup truck. Then when I am off I could park it at an RV park for cheap and essentially have a home base for all the partying I will be doing for the rest of the month until I go back to work. Hotels are expensive especially down there and if I am only going to be working "part time" then I need to be careful with how I live

RV spots are not cheap nowadays. 50 to a 100 dollars depending on where you're at. Unless you're in clayton New Mexico for 39.00 a night.
I'm headed to Ruidoso, New Mexico, for a long weekend, @ 83.00 a night.Flat Earth Trucker and JC1971 Thank this. -
Are there not govt owned land a person could camp out on legally for a duration?

Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this.

Regardless of whether you choose the hotel route or the RV park route it's going to be just as expensive (or more) than paying rent/mortgage. I guess it depends what you're willing to spend too. What's expensive to me might not be expensive to you.

I think it might just be cheaper to get a regional job in an area you want to make home base and then rent a hotel for the weekends. Most RV parks are $800 a month in the winter and dont rent monthly in the summer, unless you are 55+. If you rent an RV campsite by the night you will spend $50-100 which is the same price of a hotel. A decent trailer is going to cost you 40-60K which if financed would put you around $1300 a month with rent. There are apartments with more square footage that are cheaper than that and you don't have the level of privacy of a walmart parking lot. These RV parks are basically just parking lots to park somewhere to take a dump. You would have to be crazy to live there with no mailing address
