I can tell you from experience that I think it's a great idea. OT after 40 just like most blue collar jobs.
But It would also drive up the cost of transportation and consumer goods along with it.
Don't know if it would solve shortage problems but wouldn't it be nice to be paid our value in relation to the economic importance.
It has been my privilege to be paid by the hour since 1992.
I don't have to worry about inclement weather, never feel like I've got to keep up the pace, always looking for the next passing opportunity.
I don't have to worry about routes, always the shortest or fastest.
Never a worry about customer delays.

I don't have to worry about shutting down.
Everything on the clock is paid for, and when your 70 is up your 70 is up.
I was OTR for years back before all the bs we have now and I can truly state that even though the regs were different I did so much off the clock I sometimes think how much earlier I could have been living better, and saving earlier too.

I'd definitely consider it if there was OT.

I guess my question would be does he put his money where his mouth is and pay his drivers overtime?

Too many Companies take advantage of the exemption for Local Jobs. I wouldn’t work a Local Job without OT after 40. If it were 4 days, needs to be OT after 8. Should be treated as any other Job.

I can't think of any reason why drivers shouldn't be paid overtime after 40 hours. What makes every other skilled laborer more worthy of that than truck drivers?

And it could still be set up to reward more valuable or experienced drivers.
Not like a union wage where all are making the same but more of a starting wage with performance or longevity increases.
You would still have lower wage starter companies but everyone would be paid for all on duty activity.

I have always been paid OT.
Time and a half after 8, double time after 11.
12 to 14 hours is my normal day.

    BennysPennys and Bret1984 Thank this.

The only operations I'm aware of not paying local OT are agriculture. And local gigs that also do OTR.

I don't know how you'd swing it in an OTR operation
