Imagine your boss or customer putting pressure on drives to hurry up and get finished before OT pay starts. The law exempts drivers from the requirement for OT pay. Any boss can choose to pay OT.

Yes they can choose to and some do. I'm not aware of any issues occurring as a result. My first oilfield job I was paid hourly with overtime after 40 hours. We got a lot of overtime. There was no pressure to stop work before OT kicks in. If anything there was pressure to put in more overtime.

E-logs make it really easy. You're on the clock if you're on lines three or four, off the clock if you're on lines one or two.

I can see everyone sitting around somewhere on duty instead of driving.

That's why they do it off of our e-logs, so they can see how long (and where) we sit and how long we drive. We've had some drivers abuse it, and they got fired.

While not required most of our guys just put an annotation on the logs to explain delays.

If they are at a shipper/receiver they should be getting paid. If they are going on duty at the truck stop, well there are other ways to see that. The GPS in the truck being one way.

So how will overtime pay work when you are being paid percentage? Back in my refer daze, I worked percentage and preferred that.

We're paid the by the load.
In my flatbed days it was percentage.
Then you got the mileage guys.

Construction around here pays by the hour with ot. I would imagine the gas haulers and food also are by the hour.

Sod is by the hour and claims agriculture to get away from ot.

I know some dirt haulers that are also hourly but because they have otr. They don't have to pay ot either.

I wont work over 40 hours for the past 25 years on linehaul…Company has no OT so they know who NOT to call :DWorking OT without added compensation cheapens the value of a driver.
