Owner Op frac hauling in Tx

    I'm considering joining the frac hauling family & want to know what kinda of pay to expect as an O/O at end of week after all deductions? I've been seeing post that read $4500-$6500 a week is this true? Also is there a limit of how many trucks one O/O can lease on to a company? Any advice will be greatly appreciated thanks & God bless.

    You need to call the company's, each company is different and the deductions depend on you and the company. Each company is different on what they pay and what they charge back to you, insurance, fuel, percentage of pay, tag, permits and taxes, etc..................... No need to keep staring a new thread about Frac Hauling. You can make good money hauling frac sand if you live in the right area.

    That's before any expenses and most companies take 20% off the top of that - 33% if you're running their trailer. So, with a $5000 gross you're looking at a bare minimum of $1000 taken out plus fuel. then you have factoring at 3%, insurance, tags, truck payment, trailer payment, blower payment, maintenance, tires, etc. You might end up taking home less than $1000.

    The gross is higher than most trucking jobs but you have a crapload more equipment ($~10,000 blower and $25-$50k for good trailer), pay more to the contractor and just thru the nature of the work are gonna have more maintenance expenses. Also it's a very mentally challenging job you rarely drive more than a couple hundred miles and often wait in your truck for 24 hours or more waiting to unload with nothing to do. Imagine waiting a day to unload, driving 100 miles back to the sandplant, driving to another location, then waiting another day to unload. Repeat that several times each and every week. Not to mention the constant noise on location and constant yelling.

    Also, there are so many people getting into sand already some bigger companies in south texas already don't have enough work for their trucks and thats supposedly where all the activity is. I talked to a company man who told me in north texas (barnett shale) more gas wells are being plugged than are being drilled. Most of the big leases only run thru 2012 in the eagleford shale so at best you're looking at a year and a half of work there at the same extent it's going now. West Texas and New Mexico MIGHT pick up the slack and gas drilling MIGHT pick up again in north TX but I wouldn't go making any big major investment that's gonna take you several years to pay off cuz you're not gonna be guaranteed much work. That's just the way the oilfield is.

    Personally, unless you own a fleet of trucks I think an ol' boy would be best off getting a job as an oil/gas tanker driver. You can make good money ($1500/week), get home every night (or day), and someone else can pay for your rig. Also, after a well is drilled oil and gas continue to be taken off of it for years and years so there WILL be work for the next 20 years probably for oil and gas transport. If you own your own truck you might look into leasing your truck onto a tanker outfit.

    Once a well is drilled and fracked you have no more need for sand but tanks will continue running the product off the well for years and years and years. Only so many wells can be drilled in an area and due to the nature of the way the leases are et up (they expire) drilling activity is either completely insane or nothing at all. When it starts to slow down all the sand trucks are gonna be in for a world of hurt.

    does anybody know the direct customers name that most of these sand trucks haul 4? i haul pipe for xto for awhile and interested if these companies all do different jobs.
