    Find the following
Owners home location, city and county.
The actual business location. It’s registered address.

Did you get any of this in writing?
Do you still have the BOLs and other paperwork.

.....and don't haul anymore loads for him.
Cut your losses and walk away.

One thing you can do is get a judgment against him. Then you can enforce the said judgment by freezing his bank accounts. It's not that difficult to do. The problem is going through legal channels might cost more than the money amount owed. If you do go this route make sure you get the costs added to the judgment.

Getting a judgement and collecting on a judgement are 2 different things all together.

Yes, that's why I followed my get comment with that word enforce! This is a 2 two-part process! Why would you make such a comment? I have done this before. Once you get past that Judgment stage the enforcement part is easier. In my case I had the guy's wages garnished.

Just for the record, I don't advise going the legal route if the money is rather small. What some people do is issue a 1099 and take the amount off their taxes. Again I don't advise doing anything to collect money this way without some legal advice. Getting a Judgment is only part of it. Then you have to do the leg work to find assets to go after. I think @Chinatown gave the best advice.
