    Hey guys i need help so i am hiring a owner operator he own truck and trailer but want to work in my authority so do i add his truck in my dot or only my company sign on his truck and cargo insurance is good

    You will have to have a legal lease contract with him spelling out all the particulars. You will have to create a driver file for him, with his application, drug tests etc. He will have to be under your insurance. And any inspections with violations will go against your company. I sure there is more and more knowledgeable members may pop in here and tell you.

    First item. Contact your insurance company and ask if they will insure him and the equipment he has. Also how much the premium will be.

    After you get that information decide if the risk to lease him on is economical.

    Rest of the paperwork is easy and can be done in a short amount of time.
