Looks like a CR England truck. Three drivers to a truck.

I seen that movie. They sat in the passenger seat when they where off duty(sleeper berth). Not even close to a trucker movie. :p

They had many of the same problems, trying to pay off the truck, looking for loads, brokers shafting them, etc. Then George Raft gets involved as part owner of a company and starts buying reefer trailers, but he misses the road. Driver falling asleep driving and crashes & dies & had just made his last truck payment.

The problem is it isn't all like it is today, Back then you bought your load and sold the load at the market.

The movie which was on tcm tonight is a film about pre-hos trucking, and is one reason why we ended up with Hos.

The book, the long haul is a lot better than the movie, it goes into a lot of details.

UPS is planning on having 3 drivers in a sleeper trucks. From Transport Topics:

Proposed UPS-Teamsters Pact Reveals Expanded Driver Operations

Details of a tentative new labor deal between UPS Inc. and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters have begun to emerge, including specifics on expansion of the parcel carrier’s team-driving operations and pay increases for its drivers.

The company confirmed that it will create a minimum of 2,000 sleeper-team truck driving crews by transferring freight from railroads to tractor-trailers. This will double UPS’ sleeper-team operation, and the driving jobs will be among the company’s highest paid, reaching 96 cents per mile in 2022 for three-driver trucks.

The movie is fiction anyway. Bogart was complaining about not being paid for loads he hauled, then the guy said he can fix him up with some whiskey loads or something like that.
