I would like to know if anyone has an oppinion on PDI (professional drivers institute) in New Buffalo, MI. They offer 3 weeks CDL 'A training for $4000 (cash) all inclusive, and a pipeline to a handful of recognized companies offering pre-hire contracts. Another option for me is Baker College (Cadillac) which has a 16wk. @7hrs/wk (nite school) program which is now PDTI accredited, at a cost of app. $7000. Either one would work for me, but my gut is that the latter would be better all around. I much enjoy all the info/banter on this site, and looking forward to hearing from you all. I'm on the threshhold of a new career, and my ears and eyes are open. But apparently not open enough as i misspelled P.T.D.I. (sorry)
P.D.I School vs. P.D.T.I. accredited

Munrkr -- I think Newbie2be is currently in the Baker College program. He hasn't been around much lately -- probably busy studying, but his last post was very positive. Go to the search icon at the top and click on 'advanced search'. Put his name in the search box and you can read his posts. Best of luck to you.

Munrkr,
as tempting as it sounds to get it out of the way quickly and painlessly
as possible,it most cases it wouldn't be the way to go.
Take your time, spend as much time as you can behind the wheel under instruction and you'll gain much more than the short course.
I went with a similiar course in Albuq.NM during the summer months for
3 months and worked well (PTDI certified, hangs proudly in my office)
whereas some other students have taken the 3 week course with another outfit, they aren't doing quite as well.
Good luck to you out there -
for your information, most if not all schools have a "pipeline" with trucking companies. its called "recruitment seminars" and this is how the schools help students find jobs. -
Sorry for that. After reading it back, pipeline did seem harsh, but wasn't meant to be. No, placement is important and feel one should cast as wide a net as possible. My thoughts are of which school might provide the most exposure. "listen to many and, trust but few,and always paddle your own canoe". Recruiters are our friends. thanks for the reminder.

your posting of "exposure" for one school or another has no merits........you pay your money at EITHER school, they provide the recruiting seminars that the various companies attend and show you their stuff........how much more "EXPOSURE" do you want.....?? as a student, you get to choose from one company or another, they are all basically the same for rookies/newbies......its when you get your experience, you can "EXPOSE" yourself to whom ever you want...........till then, you're basically whipped into submission to go with any company the school provides as placement for students that have absolutely NO EXPERIENCE........
most (if not all) schools have the same company recruiters stop by to present their crap to you. it makes NO DIFFERENCE as to how much or how little money YOU SPEND........
and there are no "pre-hire contracts"...........far from it. you would be hired on an "AT WILL BASIS" meaning they can hire you "at will", and fire you "at will".....................no trucking company has "contracts" for employment that i am aware of, unless you talk about attending a company sponsored driving school, THEN, you will sign a contract to PAY THEM BACK by either working for them for a lenght of time, or "pay in full" if you leave before the expiration of the contract.......... -

Thankyou both. Valuable insight and point very well taken. I still believe that the school one chooses, and the company on signs with has to have Some relevence. I could be wrong. I do kinda live by the motto "Go where they send you and do what they tell ya." But in as much as i have a choice, I'll need to make one, that's all. Thanks again for your candor!

if you went to "Dip Stick-U" for brain surgery, then your chances for a decent residency are slim.
if you went to "Brown University" (an Ivy League) your chances of becoming a resident, and possible professor of the Nuerology Dept are great............
you're going to pay your money to a "trade school" (so to speak). you will gain your experience from actual driving. there will be recruiters for both schools...................why pay more money than you have to...??
afterall, this decision isn't "brain surgery" involved.............
