I was reading about a 747-8 BBJ that was ordered by a Saudi prince. The prince died before the plane was delivered. The Saudis were unsuccessful trying to sell it. So they sent it to Pinal base in Arizona to be scrapped.
It was there that its most valuable parts, the four General Electric GEnx turbofan engines, were removed.
While the aircraft has not yet been fully scrapped, its wing flaps, some parts of the tail and fuselage, as well as the rudder have already been dismantled.
The part that surprised me is that the 747-8 had reportedly operated only 16 flights and spent just 29 hours in the sky. That's basically a brand new plane.
World’s first Boeing 747-8 BBJ is scrapped in the US - AeroTimeAnother Canadian driver, mjd4277 and Chinatown Thank this. -
Yup I posted a thread about it.
What A Shame- Boeing 747-8 To Be Scrapped After Only 30 Flight Hours
That was possibly the lowest time 747-8 anywhere. A real shame.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
