First off, I want to thank any advice/insight in advance. I am currently in the Military thinking of getting out and starting a career as an OTR driver. I feel that going with the company paid CDL course with a 1 year commitment will be the best route for me........ the question is what company to work for? One of the best companies according to my research was Jim Palmer out of Missoula, MT......however they are now owned by Wilson Logistics.....and it seems like most people advise against driving for them......Does anyone have insights? I understand the pay will be lower then other companies.....but i am mainly looking for a company that focuses on safety, will provide me with adequate training and experience and hopefully will keep me moving(hoping for long haul). I look forward to your insights!

-if Wilson is still a decent starter company, leaning towards them as they seem to be military/vet friendly-

To answer the questions in advance-

Currently live overseas......thinking of setting roots in Texas but am not set on any specific state/area yet. I have had a license for 10 years, and no tickets/accidents in last 3-5 years.

The man that owns Jim Palmer also owns Wilson Logistics. He simply merged the two.
Wilson Logistics pay is above average for a company that has their own cdl school.

Texas and Nevada are good states to live and work in. No personal state income taxes in either state.
