Parking brake hesitates to release, 1996 peterbilt 377.

    Hi there, I recently purchased a 1996 peterbilt 377.
    I’m wondering why when you push in the parking brake , it doesn’t release until you hold the service brake all the way down for about 3 seconds. Is this normal or is there something I should look for ?

    My truck just did that today,it sat for 2 days,I went to leave and the right rear drives were dragging.Shoes were stuck to the drum,probably slight rust.Its been raining a lot here in Houston.
    I hit the brake pedal and then backed up ,it loosened up.Brake shoes are 50%.It's the first time it has done that.So I'm guessing your shoes are just a little rusty.

    I just replaced the brake shoes? I do need some new chambers in the next month though
