We usually just park at our yard, since we are such a small company. However, sometimes I'll bring the bobtail home to clean up. Our house is just off the main road, and even though there is a 7.5 ton weight restriction, nobody seems to say anything. My driveway is plenty long enough for the bobtail.

I'm about 2 months away from getting my CDL-A and have a few prehires already on the table. All of the companies I am looking at say that the Driver needs to have a place to park the tractor AND the trailer when we are home.
I can put my tractor on my street, but getting the trailer in front of my house would be some feat considering I am the last house on a pretty small dead-end street.
Any ideas on how you go about getting permission to drop your trailer in a empty parking lot? Is there some other solution? None of the companies I am looking at have a drop yard within a 2 hr drive from my home. -
First off, take a look at this thread: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...ice/90883-what-are-other-parking-options.html
Something that a lot of us have had a problem with is local ordinances forbidding parking in residential areas. Not only of the entire truck, but just the tractor.
Another thing that was of a concern to me, was that the company I was with required a "secure area" to park the trailer in. It was horse pucky of course, but that was what they wanted.
I happened to have enough room in my yard to park the tractor and trailer right in my back yard. I could even put the trailer doors right up to the fence, making it more secure. As if the dogs didn't make it secure enough.
What you might try to do is to find either a truck stop, near your home, that will let you leave the trailer there. A lot of them won't allow dropped trailers however. Another possibility, is if there is a trucking company with a yard near you home. You might be able to leave your truck there, even if it requires "renting" a space.
You might try an RV storage yard, if there is one nearby.
This is a big problem for a lot of drivers. Good luck.bullhaulerswife and skoshi130 Thank this. -
Luckily I don't have this problem. The company I work for owns a truck wash about 3 miles from my house, so I drop the trailer there and bobtail home when I'm on a short break, say a day or so. Otherwise, the truck is left at the yard, about 20 minutes away.

Thanks. There was Big Don, there was some good advice in that thread. There are parking lots aplenty in my town, so hopefully one of the owners will take pitty on me!

thankfully there is a truck stop in my home town that allows people to drop trailers with permission on their lot.

Check with your local city or county government parking enforcement office or call the desk sergeant at your local police department's precinct station and see what help they can be to you. -
My home is in the far Chicago suburbs. I rent a place to park when I'm home. It comes with a heated garage. Nice in the winter. Other places like this near and around Chicago that are just that a parking place.
Will the boss help pay for it. -
the casino down the street lets me park there. you just have to learn to ask people and if you do it right they may say ok.

But if you ask first . . .
