unless or until fuel goes down and freight picks up,that check your getting now is always there, don't try it unless thats all you care about and all you want or have to pay for is a truck.

there is more to it than money, that being said you'd probaly make more as a company driver.
i know as far as my situation, yeah i probaly could afford to pay myself more than 500 a week, but then id be shorting my company on money to pay for the eventual f up, failure of a system or any other damage that may and probaly will arise
it a heck of a risk but its worth it to me, is it to you?
you will work harder as an owner than a driver, if for no other reason than to keep costs down -
OK i have been on both sides of the coin. Now let me tell you i started out as an O/O in the worst possable way. i had $23.00 in my pocket and leased a brand new truck for 0 down. my payments were 2300 a month. and i made it work i payed the truck off and ran it for 1 year then sold it all. Now that beeing said i had allot of help my wife worked and the company i leased the truck from was very understanding when those weeks where there was no cash flow about letting money slide to the house and make it up the next week. Did i work hard you bet i was allways under a load when i went home i took 15 days off total in 2 years the first 2. i was never home and i ran like a dog but i made it pay. And i will do it again in a couple of years this time it will be a totaly different situation i will either own the equipment out right to start or have a very low payment for the tractor. Depends on what we find when it come time to do it whether we go with a 1 or 2 year old truck or a older truck.Never will i buy a new truck unless i can pay cash up front when i can buy a year old and have all the los gone. THe best and worst times i ever had were as a O/O and whe it was all over i had a truck that i sold for a nest egg. If you drive for a company and leave after 5 or 6 years all you get is maybe a 401k but other than that its what you put away and a see you later. the other thing is with your own truck you allways have a job because every company is looking for O/O. its the easiest and quickest way to expand a fleet at no cost to the company. Is it worth it YOU BET and the worst day as an O/O is better than the best day as a company driver.
