Just curious if most people look for big money or more honetime or a good combination of the two? I currently drive for Mclane grocery and average $80k per year however I do three trips of approximately 22 hours to nyc Sunday night thru Friday. I have the chance to take a Monday thru Friday home every night and weekends gig with rienhart foodservice at about $50k per year. I'm not sure if I want to give up the money but with a family at home the schedule sounds really nice.

    Age old question.

    Depends highly on your situation.

I go for a mix of the 2, but have no children, and little debt.

If I had kids at home, I'd be going for the maximum provision for the home, without sacrificing precious time as the kids grow.

And with mclane it's hard to get a schedule that will provide both. It seems like you work your ### off and make a killing while rarely seeing your own bed or take a low paying bid and still only be home a couple nights during the week. So I'm kinda leaning towards the foodservice gig and hopefully being able to adjust to the pay difference.

Or look to LTL - ODFL if it's close.

And be careful of the green grass syndrome - it can have you chasing your tail for years.

I worked for fedex freight for about a year and absolutely loved it. I wish I was still there but unfortunately they dropped me down to about 15 hours a week and I just couldn't hold out any longer. So ever since I've been a little leary of ltl

Sitting at home cost you money.

Stay home to visit as little as possible. Your payroll depends on it.

I spent my life running around this country with kids at home; just to make a little more. Now they are all gone and we hardly talk; but now I am home daily and it is boring not being able to spent it with them. In the end being gone all the time gained me nothing, and they often asked why dad; we could of did with a little less.

This is me, you have to do what is best, but I can tell you one thing; you cannot make the lost time up once they are gone.

I hear you. I guess growing up in a land of parental "No" made for a rather quiet relationship into adulthood, it's not much of one. I should spend a little time with paw while he is still with us. Im sure he will enjoy it a little bit. We'll see how that goes.

Money is not everything, in the end you can't buy time with all the money in the world. That being said, i would never do food service for 50k
