Probably, but a trooper knows the roads are full of them. Why would he be doing an inspection on the side of an interstate? He had a choice, not like a tow truck driver or road service.

Sad story but you think as much as troopers ##### at us about finding a 'safe space' to park instead of on a shoulder or anywhere near it they wouldn't be doing inspections there.

 

Here’s a thought, don’t do vehicle inspections on the side of the interstate. Senseless death, could have been prevented.

Was it really just a random inspection or a violation like speeding that turned into an inspection report.

I had one random roadside inspection in MS and the officer signaled me to take the next exit. Just a level 3 inspection on the off ramp.

It only makes sense to take it to the next exit.

 

Depends on what they found. Blown tires, steer with cable showing, oil pouring from everywhere, cracked frame, cardboad hubs, 5th wheel coming apart. For all we know he did the inspection there and then because he saw something alarming on the vehicle and beilved it was one pothole away from killing someone. Could have been a drunk driver, impared driver, revoked CDL. Perhaps even have been worried about human trafficing or that the driver was smuggleing illicit goods and not wanting to give the driver a chance to flee onto the interstate.

While the cop SHOULD have made the guy move to an exit or someplace safe. There are many reasons why not doing so could have been a good call as well. We simply dont know.

 

I agree and I don't. There's one thing these days that I think of more than any other single thing driving a truck and that's getting run over by an idiot, usually driving a truck. No way I'm ##### around outside of a truck or on the shoulder unless it's code red. It's getting worse by the day. Hell, if I were a trooper I'd block the right lane 50 yards back and say screw the squad car I'm not getting runover. But as far as we know, he didn't.

But you're right, there's a lot we don't know.
