I have a customer (former neighbor) that wants a quote to haul a load of compost to their new place. It's a 14mile loaded trip, and 9miles to pick it up. I can do somewhere between 35-40 yards in one trip. Still waiting on an exact amount that they need. I did one load last year for them for almost nothing to help them out. I don't normally do my own quotes as I'm leased on to someone that handles all that (although not very well) 20180228_090255.jpg

Probably have to quote it on a day rate.

It would be a Saturday since I don't work weekends and most likely only one or two loads so only a couple hours of my day off

We all have our different expectations, but if it could lead to more work, or he’s a friend, dunno - $500 for a couple of loads to reimburse your fuel and time?

As much as I would like that, I'm in florida and I can't even get that for a 150mile load that take 3 hours plus 1-3 hours loading from a major company through the company I'm leased with (That particular load is $384 for 110 yards on a walking floor for reference)

Where you are may make a significant difference. But that got posted at 3:49pm today by me. Pretty sure guys sell a triaxle load for $500 when it's coming off a site on the way home too.

Normal rate minus whatever % you feel is good. E.g. $385-20% for the friend discount. If its multiple loads, adjust discount accordingly. They save $ and you still make $.

What if you blow a tire and rip out some air lines causing a $1200 repair while doing your pal a favor with your truck on your day off for next to nothing ?
Will he step up and help out some more... or will he turn his head and whistle Dixie leaving you gasping for air and struggling to make ends meet?

All of this needs to be thought about.

    Nice is nice.
    Business is business.

Last time was suppose to be with my pickup truck but ended up needing my dump trailer home that weekend so used it instead at the agreed pickup price. This time is planned with the dump trailer and looks like they only want one trailer load.

How in the world do you stay in business running a 150 mile run in a walking floor for 384 dollars?
