Petition to oppose FMCSA speed limiter mandate

Well you certainly aren’t here to discuss or debate the merits and inferiorities of speed governed trucks and ungoverned trucks if that is the only response my prior post can elicit from you.

When speed limiters become law, this thought process will have to change. When you have, like in this example, two trucks governed at the exact same speed (we know this because they are both Swift trucks), no longer having the extreme desire to be in front will be the predicating factor for the truck in the slow lane to courteously slow down. The courteous thing to do is going to be to swallow one's pride and tuck back in where you belong behind the pack of trucks.

 

That's already my thinking. I will slow down to keep the hammer lane moving. That should be the mentality whether limiters are law or not. The Swift truck in the slow lane had no driver etiquette. All I'm saying is if I were Freymiller, I wouldn't have passed in the emergency lane.

 

The proper driver etiquette is to not pass another truck when you are the same speed at they are; expecting them to slow down for you is 'princess think'.

 

I dont disagree. If you can't pass easily then staying to the right is the only option. Like you said earlier, someone has to swallow their pride. Unfortunately at that point, Swift in the slow needed to chalk it up to the game. I catch myself having to think for others at times on the road. It's the way it goes some times. If I were Swift in the left lane, the minute I got up on the Swift in the granny lane, I would have increased my following distance, then reset my cruise. That's inexperience all the way around there. Some guys get in trucks and still think they're driving 4 wheelers.

 

If this mandate dose pass I hope every one of us dose just that and clog up the highway for miles! Let's show them why this is a bad idea. Accidents are going g to increase. Interactions between cars and trucks are going g to increase. Road rage will increase. But hey it's all for safety right? Traffic will be a nightmare and Freight will be delayed. Welcome to the new America
