Hello, I have some questions about having a petty theft on my record from 4 years ago and then some. Will that disqualify me applying for a job?
I am working on getting this charge expunged but is petty theft a serious enough crime to even worry about? The charge was rediculous and at the time I just pleaded no contest because I was drunk and out of line. I do not drink anymore and even then I didn't even drink too much but it is what it is. I was at a strip club the the stripper was buying drinks on my credit card and I didn't know I had to pay for her drinks also to keep me company. But when they told me to pay I freaked out and got arrested.
Petty theft on my record - Does this disqualify me from a trucking job?

Each company has their policies and decide on a case-by-case basis for the most part.

yeah that's what i figured, I just refused to pay a bill, it is not like I intentionally tried to steel from anyone. Well that another hurtle I need to fix before I can think about driving trucks

Have you picked a company yet? I had a theft of $500 on my record and was hired. It's all about honesty. The companies need drivers and if you are honest they will give you a chance. If thats all you have on your record, the stripper freak out, you should be fine. I asked if you picked a company yet to suggest Schneider. I drive for them and am very pleased. They are very safety concious. Trucks are slow, but they have a lot of freight. I average 2600 miles a week and i get home every 6 days. Newly married so i gotta get home more often than normal, and my wife is 23 and I'm 38.lol Good Luck

It all depends on the company. However, every company that hauls gasoline that I've seen does not take drivers that have a report like that. It may be simple and stupid but gasoline is a product that everyone wants and steeling goes on. I've seen drivers get fired over 1 gallon of gas. But most companies will investigate the charge and realize how petty it is and go on from there. Keep trying to expunge your record. Going in with a clean slate is always best. Good luck.

Make sure you can be hired, before dropping cash on a school. Like others have said, "shouldn't" be a problem, but cover your bases first.
