It's been a while since I drove OTR. In fact, it's been since 1996 (started at Schneider in 1994).

At the time, i was told to get my CDL and get a couple of years experience so that you will ALWAYS have that to fall back on. So I did.

In the meantime, Federal Motor Carrier Laws changed and my previous experience means nothing.

I have kept up my CDL all these years (but dropped Haz-Mat).

I was accepted recently to Maverick, however, after I put my two weeks notice in at my current part-time job, Maverick came back and said that they could not hire me because I have not been employed FULL TIME for the past three years. This is rediculous! Why didn't they tell me that before they told me I had a job with them and before I gave my two weeks to my current employer? I thought Maverick was more "professional" than this.

By Maverick's stance, I will be stuck at a part-time job for the rest of my life! (I've never heard of such a thing)

What I need help with is this:

I need to find a company that offers paid "refresher" training like Maverick does. I cannot afford to take time away to go back to trucking school and cannot afford tuition costs right now either. I actually prefer Dry Van over flatbed, but Maverick got excellent reviews and I figured I would try flat bed since I could not find any other options. I cannot go back to Schneider (already tried) and want to stay away from JB Hunt, Werner and P.A.M.

My ideal job would be a dedicated run from the Saint Louis/Cape Girardeau, Missouri area to the Cincinnati, Ohio area. I have friends and family in the Cincinnati area and it would not matter which location I would spend my home time at. It is also understood that getting a dedicated run will not happen right away. I expect it to take well over 6 mos to a year or more before I would qualify... which is fine.

Any ideas from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

Wait a minute, you first said that you WERE ACCEPTED by Maverick, and then you were LATER told that you could not be hired because of employment history verification?? Ummm.... Maverick Recruiters would not say that you were accepted before they had done their proper research on you or anyone for that matter. Maverick is very particular on who they give invitations to orientation to.

How were you not able to get them work history verification? Had you been unemployed or something for a period of time in the recent past? If so, you can provide your unemployment payment information. I had been unemployed for about 2.5 months when I was accepted. I am just trying to help out. Maybe you could try contacting Mason Hudson, he was the recruiter eho worked with me. If you do as much as you can to help make their job easier to get you accepted, they WILL do everything that they CAN do to get you in- as long as you meet the beginning criteria.

I have been employed part-time for a little over three years (just barely making ends meet). They said that I needed FULL-TIME employment history.

Maverick told me that I could start whenever I was ready, all they had to do was verify with my current employer. I had them wait a week because my current employer is a real chump... I knew that once Maverick would inquire... that my job would then be in jeopardy. Maverick knew I was only part time. I was assured that all other requirements had passed. All they needed to do was verify with my current employer. They even told me that everything checked out with current employer but then they said that it needed to be FULL-Time. I had CLEARLY stated that i was currently part time.

Oh well... I am NOT here to bash Maverick at all. I don't meet what they want... and its that simple. this post is NOT to bash them for any reason.

I am just looking for other options now since my current job is on the line now.

Some companies (your current employer) for various reasons do not respond to employment verification requests and this causes problems for prospective new employees (you). And this is compounded when some (possibly Maverick) simply shut down the pre-hire process due to an irreconcilable employment or unemployment gap. It's happened to me. Turned out the past company where I had worked sold off it's aggregate haul division and the contact I supplied was no longer valid (records and contact moved somewhere else) and the prospective employer said they were having trouble making contact for verification and couldn't hire until I could get someone to verify employment there ... ended up good though because I was later hired by a much better outfit making better money, easier.

My current employer gave them all information they needed and cooperated fully. I know this for a fact for two reasons... One, my supervisor was in the office when my manager was speaking to them. Second, Maverick even verified that everything checked out with them and what they said matched my resume/application.

But, let's quit focusing on that. It's a done deal. I know that Maverick is a great company and I don't want to keep dwelling on that... So let's drop it... Please!

Can we focus on what I asked please? What other options are out there that offer paid training and are as reputable as Maverick?

If you want to do Flatbed, other good companies that I am aware of that seem to be run well: Boyd, Melton, TMC, Hogan, Jaro, Bowling, Prime, Hunt.

I wish you best of luck.

I prefer van... but looked into flatbed because of all the good stuff I heard about Maverick. I wanted to work for them.

If I could find a van company that has as good of a reputation as Maverick does... I'd go there.

However, it would need to be paid training.

Part time work should count. The verification is a homeland security requirement. As long as you can prove where you were your are golden. Ask to talk to a supervisor.

What laws have changed since 1996 that says experience means nothing?
