Possible to convert 17.5 over to 22.5

    looking at a 2012 Talbert for hauling ag equipment. It's got every option I'm looking for, except it has 17.5s. He says he has them for the lower deck height, and it has no issues with brakes or tire wear. Would it be possible to convert the system over to a 22.5? There is also a muv-all with the same setup with 22.5 but I know nothing about them and it is located 2 more states away... plus I know talbert and like the brand

    Better tire wear, can travel faster, heat issues are gone, and don't burn brakes up as quick. Are the 17.5 better now? I'm getting more bad reviews than good

    Lots of trailers that came with 17.5 from the factory don’t have enough clearance for a taller tire. Is this a drop deck? If so, I’m pretty sure you’ll have to raise your ride height for clearance.

    At the minimum, you’ll have to change hubs. It’s not like switching from 22.5 to 24.5, the 17.5 has a smaller pattern.

    RGN spread axle. I'm just not familiar with the tire itself. I've done reading about them but most of the people who voice an opinion about the small tire had a bad experience

    In my experience, they tend to pop on hot summer days if you go above 65mph. It does seem like the newer tires hold up better, but you'll still have more blowouts, tire wear, and brake wear than you would with 22.5. They are just so small, turn so fast and the brakes are smaller.

    We run some 17.5 on drop decks because we need the lower deck height, but I see no advantage with running 17.5 on a RGN. You can find a market full of 22.5 equipped RGNs that will be every bit as low as the Talbert you are looking at.

    I would imagine the reason you are interested is that it's at a low price, the 17.5 rubber is why the price is low.

    Well I agree with it not really contributing to an RGN height, but the reason I'm really considering it is because it's the only used one I can find with all the specs I need. And since equipment season is about to hit full force, I don't want to spend 100k on a new one

    Question if you have drum brakes you would have to change drums along with hub and wheels?
    Would the bigger brake shoes that fit a 22.5 drum, work with the pins for the smaller shoe.

    Would it be best just to by complete new axle assembly?
    I think that would be the better option and buy with disc brakes.

    I run a drop frame van with 17.5 tires. I don't have an issue wi tires blowing or brakes wearing faster. I also run 18 ply tires.
