I wondered what would fit in the extra belly space to help get height down. How tall are you on the headrack?? Nice job by the way!

14'3 or 4. Gotta be explorer size to get below 14 and still see.

Have to have an escape in the nose to have room to get middle car back far enough to get it flat and not be on top of the rear tire straps. (You can get two escapes flat.)
But just getting the front off the tandem is a huge help.

I wish I could get an extra 4,000 lbs, I could add a unit much of the time and fill my tanks.
Have you hauled a pick up on #1 with a sleeper truck and no chop top. Someone asked me the other day how tall that might be, but I wasn’t sure.

The biggest reason we don't run Petes is the height. Even on the chain trucks, getting a half ton below 14 wasn't an option. (Well, unless you ran the tires less than a foot off the radiator.) Not sure how high they are on a normal strap Pete.

The Stars aren't chopped, btw. We looked at chopped Petes, the price of the chop brought their prices up equal to the Star. And you still have to deal with those custom windshields, if you break one, it might be a few days to get a replacement, and they aren't as cheap as standard glass. The cab width of the Stars is nice, too.

As for the 84k, that's only off the interstates. The 36k Colorado gives us on tandem weight comes in handy more often. I can position for height and not worry about getting over on an axle. Really helpful as tall as these dang Super Duty's are now!

I agree with a sleeper cab the extra room of the Star is nice. I couldn’t get one single dealer to give me a quote on a daycab gilder western star carhauler when I was planning my truck. Some understood sleeper carhauler glider specs, some understood daycab carhauler with emissions, but not a one that I called understood daycab glider carhauler. I almost gave up on the Pete until I got Rush involved to order it correctly. Fitzgerald had built sleeper carhaulers, but they weren’t sure about the daycab specs. Now they do a western star, but I am glad I got the Pete. It is only me and one seat is at home in the basement to make room for the big suitcase when I run the road.
The Pete comes with the original windshield with the chop from Fontaine. I paid about $5,000 or so and I think it is 6 inches cut off.

Or chop roofs run the same windshields as the regular roof trucks. I heard its about 7k to chop a roof on these petes.
