    New to the site,
Currently transitioning out of the military and ready to get started working civilian logistics/transportation as that’s what I’ve done and know from the military. I’ve done the skill waiver and knowledge exam but wondering if I should join with a company and get experience with the industry and branch out independently after a certain amount of time or is it possible to start off independent doing freight/load boards with SBA and my military experience as a motor vehicle operator? I’m aware it’s a tough business to venture into.
Any suggestions or advice would help greatly. Thank you in advance.

Truck driving is easy to get into as long as you have a clean driving and criminal history.

Lots of good help drivers will need to know what you are looking for (otr regional local etc)

I’m backwards planning at the moment but want to get into DOD/government loads. Know the vehicles and equipment, just getting started though so it’s looking like working for a carrier or pulling the trigger on being independent.

Does your skill waiver include hazmat? I know that’s a must for military driving.

With no civilian experience driving, insurance will be through the roof.
Brokers won't even give you loads if you don't have at least a year experience.
Become a member of www.OOIDA.com which is a business website for the owner-operator.
Where will your location be after discharge from the military?

    TravR1 Thanks this.
