Gokiddogo is on the right track give a all in price that includes a free backhaul if trailer is ready .. otherwise you could end up sitting or bobtailing back home and only get a mileage rate one way

Bald tires with 60 lbs of air in them and the light plug was pulled out by the last guy who moved it 6 months ago with landing gear still down.
Expired plates and no registration.
Its a crap shoot !magoo68 Thanks this. -
Had a local guy who bought a bunch of steel from an auction in Pa a couple years ago (i had only had my authority active for like 3weeks). I ran 8 loads for him & even drug his rgn back up after the last load to grab his loader. Dropped a bill off in his mailbox the following Monday, Tuesday afternoon he knocked on the front door and handed me a check, shook my hand, and said thanks you were a life saver....i said man i might make out ok doing this crap on my own. -

I love how everyone states this and that rate without knowing WHAT you're hauling or how much it weighs!
You state 2.25/mi, show up and there sits your OD load that requires permits and or escorts! Your PO load could be anything: dry box, reefer, SD, FB, RGN, expandable, tanker, mobile home frame, UFO dolly! -
I will add, make sure trailers are legal i.e., registration and DOT inspection. Have them be liable for repairs. I used to do a lot of towaway moves, which is what this is. They may be expecting a low ball rate, most guys move empty vans and refers for next to free if they are allowed to "load out", meaning use the trailer to haul load.
Make sure you have cargo insurance that will cover the trailer(s) since it is the load! Trailer interchange and typical liability/physical damage do not pay claims on towaway.
I agree with the other posts, quote a flat fee round trip, I have had many of these "cancel" after dropping the outbound trailer.not4hire Thanks this. -

I did a lot of power only. It was always a round-trip rate and/or hourly.

I'm with gokiddogo. Although I look at it this way. If you take the power only one way your still have to come back. So your looking at a 4 day trip roughly. Decide how much a day you want to make X 4 that's your price. If there is no trailer to bring back no problem.
magoo68 Thanks this.
