    Hi everyone,
At the current time I am just finishing up driving school, and am hoping to have a job lined up by the time I get my license- at this point I'm just waiting to schedule a test date. I received a pre-hire from a company, but noted that this is contingent upon such things as a background check and obtaining a CDL- does anyone have any information or experience with this? I have an entirely clean driving record and no criminal history, drug use, anything like that. I called the company's recruiter, as per their instructions on the letter they sent, but was a little puzzled to find that they did not need anything else. I was not yet ready to schedule an orientation date, as I did not have a test date for my license as of yet. Once I am set up for a test, I will call the company back to schedule an orientation date. I spoke to the recruiter about this, and she said that would be fine. In the meanwhile, I'm planning on accumulating as many of these pre-hires as I can- it makes sense to me to have as many options available as I can. Is there anything else I should know or should be doing in regards to these pre-hires?

Just keep in mind that a pre-hire means nothing. I have seen many washed out in the orientation. Make sure you don't leave anything out or try to hide anything. When you get to orientation there will be a lot of paper work. Most will require a road test to see what you learned in school, pretrip etc. DOT Phsyical, There will be an interview and background check. If everything is cool you will go out with a trainer. When he feels you are ready to upgrade to solo most companies will do another road test again. Little more paperwork, and then you are given the keys to your truck. When you get the keys you are then hired. All leading up to that is weeding out the ones they don't want or need. Good luck! Be safe!

    The Great Went ?

    Limestone, Maine wasn't it?

I wasn't there, but 3 of my sons were. All are/were/will forever be devout Phish fans. My youngest son follows MOE.

Think of a pre-hire along the lines of spring training. While most may stay within the organization, some do get sent home. If you're clean (criminally/driving/employment/health-wise, you're probably okay.

I went to a school that was funded by a few carriers that said we were pre hired. My class started with 22 and only graduated 8..

Best of luck to you but I would not hold my breath on the pre hire.
