I'll usually send a text from my phone while I'm rolling, asking TTR readers what I should do.

    They've never let me down.

I gotta be honest....I've had PrePass for the majority of years I've been driving. I can probably count on one hand (maybe two) the number of times I've had to make that life-or-death decision: "To stop, or not to stop". Red light on my unit, "Closed" sign out.

If the sign says "Closed", I'm rolling UNLESS I have HM (no matter what the state....I guess we all have our quirks...). But I've never had a problem. I figure they should know what they want...that sign tells me what they want.

    I just try to oblige.

OK. In the FWIW department, and keeping mind the OP's situation, has anyone ever had anyone come after them when this situation has presented itself? Or know anyone else that has? My bet is no.

From a LE standpoint, if there are trucks backed up and getting ready to have their tail ends sticking out in a lane of traffic, it's now become a safety issue that over rides the Pre Pass. Otherwise, signage should be posted as such: "Pre Pass Users Follow ALL In Cab Signals Regardless Of Message Sign."

The scale house knows when they throw the light on and I guarantee it's not inadvertent. Otherwise, they don't have a leg to stand on.

So, back to the original question above. Anyone?

There are 3 things you must know.

    1. If the scale is full bypass

    2. *Removed by Moderator*

    3. Never drink the stuff in the mountain dew bottle that has been open. You find in truck stops parking lots.

I'm calling BS...I've had one go off in a shower bag, in the back of the sleeper...so you're wrong, or mine was way overly sensitive.

It'll scan through a shower bag in the sleeper. Either sit on it or put it behind the small of your back. Works every time.

So if the above, underlined sentence is the case, then shouldn't everyone, prepass or not, enter the scale when the "scale closed" sign is on?
If a prepass truck which gets a red light should not risk a ticket by entering a scale with a closed sign ( a scale which is not obviously locked up and dark) then the same precaution should be taken by all,and everybody should go in to an obviously open scale (with a closed sign) ,since if the scale official decides to chase a bypassing truck(prepass or not) it will be the scale persons word against the driver as to whether or not the scale closed sign was on and the cop will win.
Is this interpretation of the underlined question valid?

All Green Light Sites - Carriers are advised to watch the OPEN / CLOSED sign at the entrance to Green Light weigh stations because if a sign reads CLOSED they should not stop even if they got a red light signal on their transponder. In those cases, the CLOSED sign preempts the red transponder signal and excuses carriers from stopping at the station. Although a Green Light weigh station may be manned and appear to be open, enforcement officers will occasionally activate the CLOSED sign when trucks back up in the queue or when officers are otherwise busy processing trucks. Meanwhile, the Green Light system may continue to send red and green light signals to approaching trucks with transponders. Regardless of a red light transponder signal, a weigh station CLOSED sign takes precedence and excuses trucks from stopping.
