Pre Trip Inspection question. What happens if a defect is noted?

    If a defect is noticed and logged what happens?
    I can't find my motor carrier book.

    I think the options are to fix it or get mechanic to sign that the defect doesn't need repair.

    Legally?
    If it's a required item, well it's required. The truck cannot be on public roads until fixed.
    If it's a non required item, well it's not required so legally means nothing.

    When I first started driving, I would be waiting to (un)load and I would pick up that book and read it. I was surprised how much was in there that I didn't have a clue about. Whether you read that book or get the info online, the better you know and understand the regs, the more prepared you will be when you get inspected.
