I don't care enough to verify, but if I remember correctly the average of the few months it was low due to everything closed wasn't enough to bring the average down. Or it had raised so much that even that drop was still more than it was in Jan '16.
Or maybe it was lower for those few months. I honestly don't know and don't care enough to look it up.

 

Actually it was obamas reckless spending that set inflation rising before trump took office, inflation Actually went down under trumps 4 years, but i wouldn't expect you to post facts.......

 

Obama fought the great recession but I wouldn't expect you to use common sense......

 

He still spent like a drunken sailor, you can't spend and spend without inflation rising....

People out of work played a part.
Tarrifs added to the part.
Now the virus. Lack of supply and too much demand.

How many times did they raise the debt ceiling under Obama??? It was in the news quite a bit, each time they did that added debt and inflation....not to mention how much the dollar devalued during his administration.....
