Over 40 yrs and im still trucking thru good and bad times. Freight rates are a little lower than I like so I park the truck. I run it as a business. Yeah I admit I hit the chrome shops every now and then but what most dont understand is how to run a business or understand a contract. Of course a lease deal is going to favor the company but when u get companies paying .90 cents a mile then take out .10 cent plus other bs charges then u have insurance, fuel taxes, plates/permits and so forth what does it leave a driver not much but a good business person can figure it out how to make money and still have money to live on. I dont put the key in my truck unless it pays $2.00 per mile or 90% with my trailer of the line haul. Knowing how to manage your money is the KEY.
Prime's lease deal. The math gets done.

Now, you mention 90-cpm... where's that at??? No wonder people go bankrupt trying to do this! We're paid percentage of linehaul, fuel surcharge, etc. at Prime - and while it is riskier in a bad economy than a guaranteed cent-per-mile contract, my numbers work out to $1.73 per mile for all dispatched miles.Bigdubber Thanks this. -

As for that .90 cpm, thats england! Lol ive heard they are a joke

kllm lease guys average about $1.45 a mile gross. but they have almost no expenses and its really easy to actually buy a used truck through them. prime is just expensive cause its a brand new truck. your not leasing something that is 2 years old that had 2 company drivers in it running team with the pedal to the floor.

You can't blame Prime for anything if there is a sucker anytime anyway, who will go for the program. The only way to get rid of such scams is to say, "Thanks but no thanks" As an O/O my monthly is equal to a Prime's weekly!! Granted, I have great credit and I put down a sizable down, but that's MY choice in order to have a fair chance to succeed. I certainly have met some challenges and come hell or high water, I'm going to make it work. Maybe it's because I think I did the math, and that I run my truck as a business. Certainly I can improve on many levels, but all I know is that you can't possibly make a decent living on a $4000 mth truck payment!!! A decent living that you DESERVE. It doesn't need a rocket scientist to tell me that Prime's lease program boils down to make Robert L and his cronies a nice FAT, GINORMOUS profit. The fact that at the end of the lease, the driver is handed a congratulatory check for completing his lease. Now there's the first red flag, but maybe they don't do that anymore. Heavens above, does Prime have to give this money back anyway?? I can just hear them in the Prime HQ, why should we give these suckers this check anyway. Let's keep it all. But, guys, it's no good whining about it because the only way we as drivers can stop these con-jobs, is to just walk away and get something that makes a little bit more sense. If you have to be a company driver, then so be it. But if the market is there and there's an endless line of gullible people out there willing to take this lease nonsense on, then things are not going to change anytime soon. Prime's lease program just smacks of a very advanced payday loan...Hello!! Good Luck to you sir..and despite my criticisms, I admire you for what you did. Takes courage.

All i ask is that prime pottytrain. Their students while in russellville ar at noon was getting fuel noticed a pretty peterbuilt pull up next to me and proceed to check his tires for leaks...maybe he was just saving money on def hell if i know but really come on

Omfg the prime suckups in this thread. Attention all would be business owners. Any company that charges you .49 a mile is a giant nest of thieves (hi pawpaw!).
A lease deal with EVERYTHINg included should run a grand a week. Maybe a hair more or less depending on truck. The only per-mile should be maintenance of .05-.15 range.
Hell you can short term a penske for less than that ridiculosu prime lease dear god those poor ########. -
