Walleye I hope you will be wrong. I have heard of companies bring the tech/ customer support departments back to the USA. They had to many complaints about the language and cultural barriers.
The mexican thing...I don't know. Thats still a big safety issue and who knows whats gonna happen there.
Prime's lease deal. The math gets done.

Thats the scarey truth, I believe... I hope your wrong also, but I have a feeling we (US) are on a ride going downwards. Just imagine where we are in 10 years from now, or 20 years. Kinda scarey. In the meantime, lets enjoy what we have! Drive Safe

With all due respect... This is one of those posts that are born from unadulterated ignorance. Yes, a job a basically a job, I know - but... I am a former teacher and guidance counselor with a Master's degree, and dealing with kids in the New York City school system wore me thin - a lot thinner than trucking could EVER do. I'm sure PharmPhil has his reasons for looking/wanting to get into this industry - and Im SURE they are GOOD! I become disturbed when others purport or infer that driving a truck is somehow a step down and that becoming 'educated' and riding a train to work every stinking day to the same scummy neighborhood dealing with the SAME crap (whatever the undertaking) despite your best efforts is any different than driving a truck. In my particular instance, I have found MUCH less aggravation, much less wasted time, much less wasted effort, made more money, have been in control of my own future and have been treated with MUCH more respect overall. Although education is truly a wonderful thing, sometimes I think of burning all of my degrees if I could - especially when faced with the prospect of having to pay for student loans for the next 15 years. If there's anything I miss about being a teacher, it's the summers off!(Even though I 'worked' my summers part-time as a bartender)
I too am considering going to work for Prime as a L/O and have been weighing all the comments contained within this thread. Everyone's comments and perspectives are unique and invaluable. I thank all the "Road Scholars" here regardless of experience level!

You hear people complaining about the money they make, the hours they put in, and how "trucking isn't worth it." BULL. I'm agreeing with seanoleary1979 that I get more respect as an OTR driver than I did as a white-collar engineer. For any of you who think that you're not going to work slave hours for that big salary - guess again. Gotta deal with an ungrateful dispatcher - Heh! You think dealing with a manager in an office is any different? Want to whine about your home time? How about having to work over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in order to meet a project schedule... do you think this is any different?
The point is... you have to take what life deals you. As the economy recovers, the demand for drivers is going to go up. Hang on to what you have now, and trade up to a better company if you can. Want to be an O/O? Maybe you ought to try a short-term lease first to see if it is for you before you invest major $$$'s in a truck. But if any of you think that life owes you a living as a millionaire, guess again. All you can do is the best that you can do - make the best out of your situation, and quit the #### whining about how this company screwed you or, that dispatcher lied to you. It's the same all over - learn from it and move on.Fatguy33, bamanation, Eaton18 and 7 others Thank this. -
