i've had my hp 3 years now. never worried about ink freezing up or anything. color still works. black is the only one that's been replaced a few times from being all used up. i'll get about 3 months out of one cartridge. and they only cost $13 at walmart. if they have them. i'll buy the 2 pack box for $25.

DO NOT GET AN INKJET! I have an HP Officejet 4620 on my truck. The ink dries out so quickly its not even worth it. BUT it is nice because it has a feeder and flatbed scanner so i can scan all my paperwork from my truck. There is a link to what i have below. I would say go for a laser jet but i don't have experience with one on the truck.

The problem with a laser printer is that they use insane amounts of power when they start up. My laser printer at home will pop the breaker on my 1400VA UPS, so you can rule out using it on any inverter smaller than that. (It blinks the desk light when it starts.) Maybe, if you have an APU or 5000W inverter.
Given the harsh environment on a truck, I'd recommend watching the sales at the office stores, and grabbing a small, cheap inkjet printer on sale. (Maybe two; leave one in the box at home.) When it dies, trash it and replace. -

I have had a printer in the truck since 2003. About 4 years ago I switched to laser and haven't looked back. Current model is a Brother wireless scanner/printer. The toner lasts for a long time and it is one of the cheapest to replace. Unless I found some need for color printing on the road, which I haven't,laser is where it's at. My inverter, a 1500w truckstop brand, does fine. I got very tire of running out of ink and trying to find a place that sells the cartridge I'm looking for. If you do go inkjet, make sure Walmart sells and stocks the ink cartridges for whatever model you buy.

I have an HP inkjet 1100, been beating around in the truck for 3 years now. Only problem, ink dries out in the summer heat. I found that if you print something every few days, it doesn't have time to dry out and plug the little itty bitty hole in the cartridge. once the ink dries, rubbing alcohol will sometimes remove the dried ink. I always keep rubbing alcohol and kleenex in the truck, just for that reason, also to clean sticky mounting tape residue off surfaces. BTW I paid 29.99 at Wally World for the printer.
