I am new to this forum, so if this post does not belong here please move it and please let me know.

I have a 2000 4700 IH with a DT466E engine, and am having problems starting it. Will fire right up on starting fluid, but dies right away when ether is stopped. Anyone have any suggestions? I am strictly a shade tree mech and most definitely NOT a mechanic.

You Tube how to read flash codes off the cruise buttons. Watch Hoglund? you tube. Check wires and end of plugs you can find. Without a good scanner you are pretty much dead in the water and or can waste a lot of time searching.
Is it full of oil and water? Does it have fuel?

Just guessing, but I would say high pressure oil pump or fuel pressure regulator. Both have been known to cause problems including the connector on the regulator.
Like BoxCarKidd said, you really need some sort of scan tool to help you out.

    BoxCarKidd Thanks this.
