Got a whiff of a rumor this morning about the Q in Shakopee, MN. A division (or the entire thing) is about to close the doors? I checked the website this morning, and everything looked normal. I checked back a couple hours later, and now you have to *find* the section looking for company drivers (one job posting from June under the "Careers" tab).

Who has the scoop? Just getting rid of Lease/purchase drivers? Just getting rid of O/Os? Just getting rid of Company Drivers? Or is the whole ship sinking?

EDIT: This is *not* about Quality Carriers (the tanker folks), this is Q Carriers (Quiring) out of Shakopee, MN, a reefer fleet.

Well, you heard it here first, folks... A company-wide e-mail went out at 9 this morning. Q Carriers is shutting down the entire trucking division and will focus on their brokerage from here on out. Apparently the combination of COVID and the PACCAR emissions problems earlier this year drove them into the red.

So far, we have received two phone calls from current drivers (former when they get home) looking for work, as they will have to turn in their keys when they return to the yard after their current dispatch is complete.

Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

Tell the drivers MC VanKampen is hiring.
    Trucks governed at 75 mph
    Refrigerated trucking company.
No NYC. I think they avoid states on the Atlantic Seaboard.

They appear to be doing it right. The second driver to call us was given the option to take his dispatched load to Ohio, as he was coming off home time. He knows that when he unloads today, they will have a live load for the return trip and he will turn the leys in when he gets back. They aren't doing them dirty and shutting off the fuel cards, and as far as I can tell, they will all get their final settlements.

Our Recruiter is going to head up there today (90 miles from us) and see if he can't help place some of their drivers in new positions. We can only take on 5-7 maximum, and that involves cutting the hours of our part-time guys to do it.

I'm sure they will all land on their feet, as the Q didn't employ scrubs. They all have clean MVRs, a good work history, and do their jobs well.

TLI out of Arkansas is hiring too. But I don't think they can take anyone based out of MN, other midwest states though.

I found out a bit more about the situation. The owners wanted to get away from trucking and focus on their brokerage for a while now, but they didn't want to displace 96 drivers to do so. With the combination of the driver's market and the economy, this was the perfect time to accept an offer from a dealership group that wants to buy all of their equipment for top dollar, as they know the drivers should all land on their feet and find good driving jobs. No worries about not being paid, and they are retaining a few until the end of December to go out and collect up all their equipment scattered throughout the Midwest.
