Can a trainee driver who has a class B with tank and hazmat endorsement. Can that trainee driver get a CDL permit for A and drive a Placard hazmat trailer to learn on? Tractor trailer with a senior driver. Since he already has the endorsement of hamzat on B.

I know this probably a stupid question and feel wrong. But trainees can make a lot of dumb decisions.

As long as both have Hazmat endorsement, it shouldnt be a problem.

You can't pull hazmat until you have the CDL with HazMat endorsement. The fines for the driver for HazMat violations can be $1,000 to $10,000. Do not play any games. Do not make convenient assumptions.

Also if you are getting an HazMat endorsement please learn how to go to the FMCSA website or book to find answers. It's fine to double-check your memory or understanding with HM drivers but you are judged by the regulations so you have to know how to search them.

This is the question. The driver trainee does have his hazmat endorsement. For class B Hazmat tankers. He wants to upgrade to class a. Can the trainee legally drive class A tractor trailer placard hazamt with his class A permit with class b license with hazmat/ tanker endorsement. With trainer having a hazmat class A tanker.

I'm not stupid enough to put myself as either. But i seen a situation lets say.

A hazmat endorsement is a hazmat endorsement regardless of the class of license. On a class A CDL permit, at least in Pennsylvania, you are not permitted to pull a loaded tanker, only empty. When I had my permit my dad would drive loaded to the delivery and I would drive back with the empty placarded trailer.

I would not bet my license, or a HazMat fine, on what some stranger on the internet told me. YMMV

Permit holders ARE NOT licensed. I believe that means they are also not endorsed. Tankers only require an endorsement when they are loaded, otherwise they are just trailers.
