Hello. I've been driving professional for 5 years now. I have a multitude of experience since starting my career and am looking for some insight from someone who may have ever been in a similar situation as me or just any words of wisdom you might share. I am currently an owner operator with a gas company in Oklahoma. I haul gas/diesel all over the state. I was a company driver with several other companies for the first four years of my trucking career. However, last year I bought my first truck and have been hauling fuel ever since. The fuel industry pays well when everything is running perfectly. In my experience this doesn't seem to be the case hardly ever, if at all. I have a Freightliner day cab for context. All this being said, I'm currently at a crossroads. It's not necessarily that I don't like hauling fuel, I was just made far too many false and overdramatized promises about the actual pay I'd be making. There's so many variables when hauling fuel, none of which were ever explained to me. Owner ops who left a similar position or even went back to company work, where did you go and why? I'd consider selling my truck if there was a company position like OTR where I could net around 2K a week. Is this unreasonably high expectations for company work doing OTR? I've never done any OTR or regional work. Any insight or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Do you pull their trailers, or do you own the truck and trailer?

I pull their trailer so I’m only tied to my truck.

Oil is one of the higher paying company gigs.

    Whether they're making $2g a week I don't know.

$1500 a week company is pushing it.

I was mainly asking if it’s possible to make 2K doing OTR work on the company side cause I’m really just unaware of that whole side of trucking.

    bryan21384 and austinmike Thank this.

I've been told you can make that kind of money and more per week before taxes with Walmart, but they have to hire you of course.

I know a driver that nets 2k plus as a company driver, but he’s a trainer. Flatbed, same company 9 years. Walmart, OD, Estes, several companies is attainable, but there’s sacrifices. Cameras, corporate BS, etc.

Since you've got hazmat, go get your doubles and triples and work for a reputable LTL company and easily make that. Or you could go work for a company like Linde or Airgas, Matheson, etc and make that.

Check out the LTL forum and the tanker forum to see what you can potentially make and be home daily or weekly.
