"(2) Any crack that is not intersected by any other cracks; "

This is one of the exceptions listed in the rules. Am I misinterpreting something here? Doesn't this imply that it's okay to have a huge crack from top to bottom spanning the entire vertical field of vision as long as it's just one crack and there are no other cracks intercepting it.

No it means that one crack can't intersect another.

A vertical crack in the line of vision is still a no go.

I tried to get an image I have of one of my trucks for an example of a intersectional crack, but i can't post it for some reason.

It has a crack from the left edge going across and down to the right bottom center of the windshield. the driver got another stone thrown at the truck and it hit the bottom edge center of the first crack that goimg up to the first crack and through it to the right.

This had to be replaced and the driver got pulled into a scale because of it, and the officer gave him a violation even after proof the scheduled replacement.

any cracks or large pits in the path of wiper blades are no go, and now with the sun coming up at a low angle this time of year, all them real small pits can make the sun glare unsafe. I have seen drivers help the cracks along with them cheap companies that will not fix those windshields until a fix it ticket is written...and you know who that tickets really goes to driver.

Best way to think about it is to remember safety glass used in ALL vehicles is under a bit of tension. In fact sometimes a hard blow can bounce off of the glass. It's designed this way. You get cracks in the glass it makes the glass weak. Have 2 cracks crossing each other makes said glass dangerous. Last thing you want is an eye full of glass while driving. This was a nightmare for me once in Ohio. I had to go to the ER and lost a lot of time.
