Follow your maintenance guidelines. They are not perfect, you have to read your manuals to get more information on some of the other things to do list. For example nowhere in the manual or anything else does it tell you you need to change the oil in the diffs every 240,000 miles.
Volvo offers a checklist on their website for the engine and the def system. A truck does not need a 'tune-up' exactly, just regular maintenance. It isn't cheap and some of it you can do. Some of it you can't do. And some of it you might want done at a Volvo shop for warranty just in case. The first transmission oil change is one. -
valve adjustment, download latest software updates?
I adjust valves every 150-200k miles, and engine sounds different, seems to pull better, I'm not sure what's the recommended interval, around 100k I believe.Last edited: May 22, 2017

These d13's don't tighten up the lash on the valves between overheads like the old design. Most overheads now are every 250k. Same with dpf filter, about every 250k. Mine lost a lobe on the cam just under 375k, supposedly the roller stopped rolling on the head due to soot build up. As long as it's running ok, just keep the fuel filters clean, oil changed and filter changed, greased, new air filter every 100k, limit the idling and service as scheduled.
