Just a quick question about the DOT phyiscal. I am about to start school (8-20-07) with Drivers Solution and know I have to pass a DOT examine. I have no problem with passing the examine but, was wondering if the fact that I have had a quadruple bypass done a couple years ago would disqualify me?
My blood pressure is under control through medication, my last stress test came back good (was done about 6 months ago). So, would I be wasting my time? or not? I really want to do this so, anything you guys can tell me would be of great help.
Thanks,
D

I can't say with any certainty that it would disqualify you. Your Doctor will play a big part.
But, it would raise a tremendous red flag with most, if not all trucking companies. I would do a bit more homework on this decision before I shelled out any money. Especially if OTR is what you want to do. -
Passing a physical is one thing, but getting hired maybe another matter. I have applied to many companies in the last few weeks and find more often than not, they require a "long form" physical be sent with the rest of my papers, not just a copy of my medical card. So they obviously consider the state of our health beyond the minimum requirements of the D.O.T. Might not be a deal breaker, but might not make the cut as an "ice-road trucker"
either.
But have no fear. Just be prepared to address the issue with employers, and having necessary documentation from your doctor, ie; his written oppinion that any meds he's prescribed isn't likely to interfere with your ability..., etc. Hey good luck to you. -
But one question they always ask is: have you had any surgery, if so, where? (Not what state, but where on your body)
