I got a 97 peterbilt 379 a month ago. Replaced oil cooler couple weeks ago. Looking to see if anyone knows if there should be a surge tank next to the radiator cap. Right now there is coolant spitting out of the nipple next to the cap spraying it under my hood. It's not overheating or nothing. It's running around 150-185° It had a 10lb. cap before but just replaced it with a 7lb. Any Advice helps. Thanks brothers

Sounds like you got a head gasket gone and it’s building pressure in your radiator!
The only surge tank on the 379 is what the cap Is sitting on!

How full did you fill the rad? If you filled it right to the brim, its got no room to expand.

I topped it off like in a car. Thought that's how its suppose to go. Theres no overflow either. Does that matter?

It had a inframe done. It could be a head gasket but I'm not overheating. Heck the temp is always around 150 unless I'm hauling a load climbing a hill when it will raise the temp to 180 or so

No, I have a 379 and surge tank is the top part of the radiator. It has an overflow tube that goes out the nipple down the side of radiator. Sounds like you way overflowed it. I fill it to the middle seem of tank or slightly above. It will still push out the tube if overflowed and I’ll just let it do it’s thing till it gets to right level. If you topped it off, it will push out a ton of coolant.
This is what the top surge tank looks like

Ok that's exactly what I got. I just done have a hose running down the side of the nipple so it did surge out and made a mess under my hood but I'll be sure not to fill it to the brim anymore. Thanks for the help and advice. Take care!
