Anyone running one of these.
I own one. And, recently retired from Driving OTR for 24 years.
I'm getting real-world 28mpg with this p/u just running around.
Makes me think all sorts of dreams.
- hook up a gooseneck.
- drag some freight around (only when I feel like it).
But, this would be the important part. "Somehow, Not go broke & burn-out my new toy-truck."
Any ideas appreciated.

That truck wont pull real well. It's built for mileage. It will do it but you can't get in a hurry. I've been looking at them too.
Stormdriven Thanks this. -
Nice truck! But it's still a half ton, top towing capacity might be around 10,000... but you'll destroy the drive train long before the lifetime of the truck is over. My suggestion is take good care of it and let it last you its full 250k-400k life.

Yeah I wouldn't want to burn the thing out quickly.
YouTube has several videos of this truck pulling loads up long grades.TheDude1969 Thanks this. -

Yeah you believe those youtube vids?
OK here is the thing I found out from working with Ford and driving one of their LD diesels as a tester years ago - these trucks are not intended for commercial use.
They are there only to shore up the CAFE results for the company and their expected life is limited - which Ram and Fiat has an issue with right now.
Unlike the 12v/24v cummins Dodge (which I own(ed) several), the 3.0 L engine won't last under a consistent load like hauling.
I would like to get more than the 25 I get out of my 2500 cummins, but I think that hit the limit on fuel economy.
I'm sticking to my used pickup trucks from now on, I went to see what a replacement is for what I have - $66,900 and it doesn't have everything I want. They were quick to offer to buy my truck for $4k, told them if they take off $10k on the new one I would consider it but no go.Stormdriven Thanks this. -
All that being what it is. I suspect you may be correct.
Thus my thread, hunting for someone using this truck in serious commercial service.
It makes interesting reading, discovering how this engine was developed. And then ended up in this pickup truck.
It impressed me enough, that I purchased one.
Although, at the time, I intended it for just personal / light use.
Now, that I am retired (again) suddenly. Other things cross my mind.azheavyduty Thanks this. -
The engine maybe be great, the newer Ram trucks not so much. Was renting a p/u at Enterprise on a trip recently and manager said they are selling them off with 8-10,000 miles to get rid of them. Can't keep them out of the shop.
JChors and Stormdriven Thank this. -
If the dealer has something like a stupid teenager attempting to do the service work on the truck, the vehicle willbe ruined.
The correct parts and oil can be hard to get and are not kept in stock at many dealers service department.
I changed the oil myself, at 5,000. I had to order the stuff online.
