QUINCY, Mass. (AP) -- A ramp leading to a pier at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy collapses under the weight of a commercial truck, sending the 18-wheeler into the water.
Quincy Police Captain John Dougan says the truck's driver managed to escape as it sunk in the dockside water.

Dougan says it's not immediately clear whether the driver made it out on his own or was rescued. He was being evaluated by medical personnel, but doesn't appear to have serious injuries.

The truck was hauling dirt and gravel when the accident happened just before 11:00 A.M. It's unknown whether the truck was about to unload onto a barge or whether it was picking up a load.

The structure that collapsed is a ramp leading to a pier where barges are docked.

The Coast Guard and a building inspector are investigating.
