Friday when I did it, it's because they had stop 1 and stop 11 next to each other on the tail end.
Call me lazy if you like, but I refuse to move an 1800 lb skid around all day needlessly.
Last monday, I must have had a different guy because it was actually right for once. 2 1-skid shipments delivering in the same town were actually side-by-side instead if one behind the other.
When you're spread across 3 counties, with a small trailer, with 150 miles between your first stop and your last one when it IS loaded right, you have to have the room to work. This isn't a complicate operation, people. Load the truck like you're playing Tetris. -
LOL, so what the heck are you telling them that they dont know already?Shaggy Thanks this. -
New guy rant...Since I'm lowest on the totem pole the janitor has seniority over me. So I generally close every night (except for a few days I got to sub in for abid run). Our night supervisor is super anal aboutusing dunnage, pallets, pillows and the like to secure the items since night loads go from our crossdock to another terminal. This friday all I wanted to do was finish early and go home. There wasn't a lot of freight so it should have went fast except she decided not to call in the dock worker so it was only me and another driver/checker loading everything. 10:30 rolls around and he bugs out. Trailers are loaded and I'm ready to spot them in the yard when she comes out wanting dunnage here and air bags there. So I get everything done and she comes back out and looks in the back of 1 trailer. There's 2 skids of bags of cement up the middle in the back and she tells me those need secured with air bags
. I calmly (to my credit) explained to her that if those 3,000lb skids moved we have bigger problems than damaged freight as it means someone is probably in a ditch. She agrees then has me spot 5 trailers. It's 11:15 now, I put my truck away and was going to punch out when she stops me in the parking lot and asks me if I spotted 11 door along the woods.....no, you never told me to. Well do that before you leave
. Made it home at 12:45.
Day supervisor isn't much better. Wednesday I had to put together and break the same set of trailers 3 times while doing local P&D...that's right they gave me a set for local P&D. WTF is that just messing with the new guy? Was an aggrivating 13 1/2 hour day.Shaggy Thanks this. -
some shops have really bad days and just can't get anything in 1 piece to a destination.
I'm not far from you, I bet it's the same damage control guy.
Our shop, Except the shop steward and line haul guys work the dock. I'm P&D, work the stage often. We put everything and anything in the OBL's. Cardboard/Junk pallets/air bags/lumber just to free clutter from the shop and it actually helps lol. Can only use so many load tables/load bars/straps and nailing down crap.
I bet you received our garbage. Also bet we received your garbage. lol
It's not busting balloons on the new guy thing.... Welcome to LTL brother OT/8 what are you crying about?suck it up or move on -
Forgot to mention above, Load heavys on the drivers side and that 3k cement will move off the skid . the skid will stay in place lol....throw a extra wrap and more then enough dunnage, That driver will appreciate no hiccups along the way. Brother we get paid fair and benefits is worth it to go the extra mile. Not talking down to you or know of your previous employment, We have it relaxed compared to UPS/F
