Hi everyone!
I'm owner operator with experience of hauling vans only for 3 years.
Can someone give any information how much can I make as owner operator working for company if I haul 7-8 cars?
I heard if I take 7-8 cars from California to Boston MA (3000miles) and every car delivery is around 50c, that makes around 0.5centsX8carsX3000miles=12000$ gross per week, for me it's unrealistic, I make only 4500$ gross/week, best 6000$.
Can anyone give any advice, feedback to prove if it's possible or not?

At one time that may have been possible but rates are in the toilet right now especially out of California

One of my good buddies just approached me all excited asking how to get in the business, somebody told him that last year he made $400k hauling for Amazon.
Not relevant to car hauling, just throwing it out hereTerry270 Thanks this. -
The funny thin, OP, you have been an 0/O for 3 years and still ask silly questions

We were grossing 18-20K for 8 cars about 3 years ago. Then it went to 15-16. Then we changed the route to Midwest. As of now we ditched the whole car hauling business. It's like they want us to pay for transporting their cars. As for the drivers – they used to get 8-10K per month. And then less and less. My advise - look elsewhere. Check out Fedex per say , they pay $1700-2000/w. No benefits thogh.

Im seriously thinking about selling truck and hauling dry van.if you add up ,load times, scheduling(more and more everyday brokers are posting work that they dont have ,condition reports,insurance(2×),lack off back haul.9 picks 9 drops,or loading new cars ,(most of the time 3 dolars per mile with crap for back haul)auction cars( walking for hours to get cars) 2x maintanence cost,25% higher fuel bills.the cramped living quarters.and almost always in dot violation. The miles we have to drive is usually 30 percent higher than what we get paid for.A dryvan is looking better everyday, 2.00 per mile sounds great,no touch freight, no liability for damaging a car.an endless supply of work,a truck you can stand up in,and cook.you can wear nice clothes and not sweat.i might get $4.00 one way ,but very seldom get more tha 2 back.If you add up the cost of equipment and the time you lose loading, with our ability to run our tounges out i could easily hit 10,000 miles ,in 15 days,Ill keep this rig in case things go back to the way they were. The money i save in insurance, maintainence and fuel will pay my newer truck payment, and trailer.I think ive covinced myself.
scorpiorias and HaulinCars Thank this. -
Classic "the grass is greener on the other side". Dry van guy wants to switch to car hauling and car hauler wants to switch to dry van.
KANSAS TRANSIT, HaulinCars, My-Ke and 4 others Thank this.
