$1.93 per mile if you operating cost are $1.30 then you are making .63 per mile. I am sure that many drivers would be happy with that. I picked the Chicago are for your run as it usually a safe place for okay rates. The Reno to Atlanta round trip is 1.92 and 2.02. Total revenue to the truck for a round trip seems to be $9,600 plus. I believe that trip would be a six day run. If you could stay on that and do nothing else you would make well over $200,000 per year profit. Of course that all depends on your business skills but personally, I would have no problem running those lanes.
Reno to NY is $2.17 with a return at $1.83. Seems to be a pattern here. If you see it, you should be able to make a living in trucking. Now if you could get someone to make a payment for your truck and then turn around and pay that person .31 per mile or maybe get two felons to make the runs and pay them .20 as a team, you could call yourself a mega.

rates change like the wind.... it all depends on being at the right place at the right time. average rate depends on your ability to haggle with a broker. as well as what is posted on the LB. if he/she(broker) finds a cheaper truck while your asking for more. your out of the running.
find a shipper see if you can direct ship for them. get set up on a dedicated.
pick your poison join the rat race.
