Do any of you hire a recruiter to represent you ?

New to this, but I see recruiter coming up on different sites, would have to be better that WIFE representing you. Course I work for free. ha

Talk to me, what do you know about recruiters?

Well for starters, the recruiter doesn't represent you, they represent the company.

For lack of a better term they are sales people. Their job is to convince you that their company is the best one for you to work for. Also they serve as HR dept. pre-screeners.

The recruiter is usually the first human contact that you will have with a company.

Other than that, I'm not really sure of the intent of your question.

    Jimbo thanks for the response.
    Here is my intent.
I have seen sites on the internet where some listed recruiters give the promise to find
you work much like a personnel agency.
I am aware that companies have their own recruiters.
My intent was to find out if you hired a recruiter that worked more independent.

What you are looking for is a headhunter. I don't know if any exist for the trucking industry. A headhunter is someone who represents you and shops you around to different companies. This would probably be a good idea for experienced drivers, but I don't think it would work very well for newbs.

You can do the same thing a recruiter can do. You can sit back on the computer and let someone else make life decisions for you or you can make a list of what you want out of a company and then go out and get it.

What I would do if I had to start over would look for a job in three phases. First I'd find the best companies I could in a 100 or 200 mile radius and go see them in person. I'd talk with the boss or the person that does the hiring and ask if you have no positions now what can I do to make it easier to get hired by your company. I'd go to all the companies and not the ones that just advertise for jobs. Most good companies do not advertise for drivers. 2nd after the first is exhausted I'd look at the companies that are advertising for jobs. You'll really need to do research on the companies and SafeStat can help you here. 3rd and last you can let a recruiter find you work. Then if you do get a lousy job you'll know you did everything you could to find work.
