Its a never ending vicious cycle.
I'm of the opinion that most of the people who fail as O/O are people with poor work ethics and spend too much time at home not keeping up with truck maintenance.
If you think keeping 1 truck in preventative condition is rough,.. try it with 2 trucks and a driver in one who likes to run harder than you do.
Keeps me on my toes.

Best advice ever - matches our system.
I get paid like a Swift driver from the 90’s - rest gets squirreled away in its little ‘envelopes ‘ (assigned accounts).
The tax account was left unadulterated this year - so, the truck got paid off.
The maintenance escrow with LS (3%) took care of truck and 2 trailer tires.
The truck maintenance account got bashed like an errant child on welfare check day this month. Potentially $4,000 on generator costs, $1100 on AC costs, it’ll take a few weeks sitting on a pillow to recover.
But - no bass boat in the drive, towed by the dually on payments, no big chrome bumpers and stacks, no Caribbean holidays. Sigh.
You’ll be ok @mattvogelpohlTug Toy, Mattflat362 and jamespmack Thank this. -

You O/Os are stuck between the upper millstone of your business commitments and the nether millstone of your personal commitments. You can do everything right and still get boned.
I read a story once about the big fire at Thomas Edison's lab in New Jersey. Edison's son found him staring at the burning building and asked what he should do.
"Wake up your mother. She's never seen a fire this big before".
The son did as he was told, and the three watched the lab burn to the ground. When it was over, Edison said to his wife and son, "Thank God. All our mistakes are destroyed. Tomorrow we can start afresh".
I don't know if it's true, I can't find any cross references. But I like it anyway.
Tomorrow you start afresh, you steely-eyed O/Os, you!spyder7723, Tug Toy, Mattflat362 and 4 others Thank this. -

Does it make you feel better that I spent $3300 on my truck, and haven’t hauled a load yet? Then spent the whole weekend working on it AFTER it left the shop. Makes for good motivational “stay in school” stories for the grandkids.
The Shinedown version of “Simple Man” is the only version I have. Good stuff.Roger McG, Mattflat362, Justrucking2 and 1 other person Thank this.
