Yes you will need a CDL, and class B will work.
In a nutshell, class B is anything over 26,001 groos combined vehicle weight rating. You'll be at 30,000 pounds. As your trailer is less than 10,001 gvwr it doesn't meet the threshold to bump the trailer to need a class A
Persionally I would suggest you still go for the class A. You can always drive a class B vehicle, but if that job falls through you will have something to fall back on.

Nope, not federally unless Hazmat or 16 Pass are involved. That's where the C comes in.

Here is the guidance using 26000 and 10000 GVWR for a GCWR of 36000.

Question 6: A driver operates a tractor of exactly 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), towing a trailer of exactly 10,000 pounds GVWR, for a GCWR of 36,000 pounds. HM and passengers are not involved. Is it a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV)s and does the driver need a CDL?

    Guidance:

No to both questions. Although the vehicle has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 36,000 pounds, it is not a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) under any part of the definition of that term in §383.5, and a CDL is not federally required.

No CDL needed. Use this flow chart:

There is no such thing as an air brake endorsement. If you have a valid CDL without an air brake restriction, you are good to drive a CMV with air brakes.

I will be driving 2018 straight truck that I have been told has a GVWR of under 26,001. The truck has air brakes and I was wondering if I will still have to have a CDL because it has air brakes.
