I need to remove the steel line that goes from the oil cooler to the thermostat housing on a big cam Cummins.

Are there any tricks to Breaking that line loose? Just to be clear I'm talking about the one inch or so diameter steel tube that is held in by O-rings and I think there is a U-shaped clamp on one end.

And when I reinstall it do I put some type of sealant in there?

I'd spray the ends with some penetrating oil to help loosen things up a bit. If the tube is loose but doesn't have the room to slide out you may have to remove the 4 bolts that hold front water manifold section to the head. That should allow enough clearance to remove the tube.
No sealant needed at assembly. Just clean the bores & assemble with some oring lube.

    Dino soar Thanks this.
