Repaired my transmission not too long ago. Just the other day it left me stranded on the road. After paying an arm and a leg for a tow my mechanic told me there was a problem with the tail of the transmission.

I'm not very familiar with the working of said tail (output shaft in English?) But he did say some of the synchronizers were broken. Could anyone explain to me what those do and why those could break? None of my mechanic friends have been able to figure it out. Thanks a lot in advance.

The transmission is an Eaton fuller regular 10 speed and the truck is a 95 fld 120

Below is a picture of the broken part.

More than likely you were not able to get Hi/low range? Are you sure that it wasn't your input shaft that you had repaired 3 months ago? That is a more common repair.

Broken pins on synchronizers are usually from tortional vibration. Can you look at your driveshaft to tell if it was phased correctly after the original repair?

Thanks for the replies. I'll look into it. The shop lowered the whole transmission and tomorrow it'll be up. I've been suspecting that the shop placed the driveshaft wrong. Will have to see tomorrow, thanks
